This Costa Rica luxury resort perches one thousand feet above the Arenal Valley on a mountain ridge just six kilometers north of the active volcano but safely outside the government declared danger zone. Our luxury hotel’s higher altitude relative to other hotels in the area allows for not only incomparable views of the Arenal volcano, the lush valley, and the surrounding towns that sparkle at night, but also access to the area’s famous prevailing breezes. In fact, the name Arenal volcano is an indigenous word meaning “Window of the Wind”. With an average daytime high temperature of 80°F in the shade and nighttime lows averaging 70°F you are sure to enjoy countless comfortable hours in your balcony hammock, al fresco dining, or sipping a frothy tropical cocktail in one of our spring pools or our private Arenal hot springs.
The Springs Resort and Spa overlooks the Arenal river valley and offers direct views of north side of the majestic Arenal Volcano. The Springs is surrounded by lush tropical gardens, cascading waterfalls and panoramic views verdant mountains and valleys. The entrance of The Springs is located about 9 km from La Fortuna downtown and from that turn off it is an additional 3 km through tropical rain forest ascending to the hotel reception.
The Springs Resort and Spa is a 165 acre luxury boutique five star hotel in La Fortuna, Arenal, Costa Rica with the best view of the Arenal Volcano and the most onsite guest amenities including a 14,000 square foot full service Spa, hot springs, a kilometer of frontage on the Arenal River and a wildlife rescue preserve with 25 rescued jungle cats and monkeys. The rooms and villas are located below the main building and is connected by wheel chair accessible walking paths. The Springs Resort and Spa offers an array of on site facilities however the variety of Hot Springs is unique to the Springs Resort and Spa. With 3 separate hot spring areas Las Lagunas pools, Los Perdidos Springs (The Lost Springs), and the soon to be completed Hot and Cold Springs along the Arenal River. The Springs Resort and Spa is a truly luxurious experience and all of the rooms include a private balcony with volcano view, hammocks, rocking chairs, central cooling, jacuzzi and marbled bathroom, mini bar, wireless Internet, refrigerator and coffee maker. All of the rooms can accommodate an optional roll away bed for a child for an extra fee. Breakfast is not included in the room rate and some areas of the hotel are still under construction.
With 18 hot springs pools spanning over 4 acres of landscaped recreational area there is plenty of room to spread out and relax.
Chemical analysis of the minerals in our hot springs shows that the hotel have the best hot springs in Arenal, La Fortuna with the highest parts per million of beneficial minerals.
Four of the pools are fed directly by water pumped from Hot Mineral Springs.
Spa facilities include a common lobby with spectacular views where both male and female guests can enjoy lunch or a relaxing break together between treatments as well as separate Ladies’ and Men’s relaxation areas for added privacy between treatments.
The locker rooms are equipped with steam and sauna rooms as well as private shower and changing accommodations.
The therapeutic effects of various minerals have been extensively studied by European balneologists.
To be classified as a mineral spring the water needs to contain greater than 1,000 mg/l (PPM) of naturally dissolved solids.
Here at the Springs Resort and Spa water contains over 1,500 mg/l (PPM) of dissolved solids and has a PH averaging 6.4 so its mineral/chemical composition lends it a slightly acidic nature common to many of the world's best hot springs.
Below is a summary of the effects of each of the minerals found in our hot springs and a comparison with other local hot springs.
Benefits of Bicarbonates (HCO3)- To qualify as a bicarbonate spring the water must contain at least 250 mg/l of bicarbonate gasses.
Hotel's water has the highest level in the Arenal area (751 mg/l) which is nearly three times the threshold required.
Balneologists generally agree that a high bicarbonate level is the most important component of medically therapeutic hot springs. Bicarbonates assist in opening peripheral blood vessels and improving circulation which aids against cardiovascular disease including hypertension and mild atherosclerosis.
For these conditions balneologists recommend a water temperature no higher than 100°F. Bicarbonate waters are also thought to have a positive effect on nervous system imbalances.
The construction and design of the Springs Hotel one of the most attractive features of the hotel with the entire main building set aside for guest services including, 4 restaurants, full service spa, fitness center, sitting areas and hot and cold springs. The wood used in the construction of the hotel and rooms originates from Costa Rican tree farms and was dried and hand crafted on site at the hotel.
Vista Guest Room

Vista Plus Guest Room
The Vista Plus has a small extra bedroom with two single beds and a handicap bathroom which you enter by passing through the master bedroom. An additional two person occupancy charge is required with this guest room.
Alta Vista Guest Room
The Alta Vista Guest Room is similar in design and layout to the Vista Guest Room but has 18’ vaulted ceilings and because of its location on the second floor has a sweeping view of not only the volcano but the valley below. Accommodates two guests in a King Size bed with a possible rollaway for children. There is an additional per person daily charge for more than two guests.
Honeymoon Vista and Honeymoon Vista Plus - One king bed *
In addition to the fantastic view and all the amenities of our Vista units these ultra special guest rooms offer our guests the ability to enjoy a hot mineral spring experience in the privacy of their own lushly landscaped garden terrace. With the touch of a switch hot spring water flows with pressure into the jets of the Jacuzzi allowing for a soothing massage of your lower back and legs. The overflowing water then cascades over the infinity border edge and out of the Jacuzzi.
Family Suite Guest Room
The Family Guest Suite has the same layout and design as the Vista Guest Room on the first level but has a mezzanine bedroom above with its own private bath. The Master Bathroom has a Jacuzzi Tub. There is a King Size Bed on the lower master level and one King Size Bed on the Mezzanine Level. Accommodates four guests with a possible rollaway for additional children. There is an additional per person daily charge for more than four guests.

This two bedroom two bath guest room occupies an even higher elevation than our Alta Vista units and enjoys an even more spectacular view of the volcano and countryside. The master bedroom has the same layout as the vista but the bathroom is larger with a special arched ceiling and lighting feature behind the Jacuzzi tub.
Two Bedroom Springs Suite
- One king bed and two twin beds with additional rollaway possible.
This accommodation is located on the top floor and offers maximum flexibility. Although it has a completely separate entrance for the second bedroom it also has sliding connecting doors to the master bedroom that can be opened to create a spacious effect. The master bedroom is a great room with 16 foot vaulted ceilings and a unique bathroom with Jacuzzi.
The Palm Bungalow features 950 sq. ft (90 m2) of indoor and outdoor living space along with an oversized outdoor Jacuzzi nestled amidst its own private garden. Along with a fantastic view of the Arenal Volcano the bedroom area (705 sq. ft or 67 m2) features a spacious vaulted ceiling and a grand marble master bath with a Jacuzzi tub, an oversized indoor shower and a landscaped outdoor garden shower. It also boasts a fully stocked wet mini-bar with refrigerator and coffee maker as well as a 47” LCD TV and a surround sound system with IPhone, IPod and MP3 docking capability. The outdoor living space includes a loggia with two hammocks and a sundeck with a dining table and lounge chairs.
The Presidential Villa boasts 2,060 square feet (195 m2) of indoor and outdoor living area surrounded by lush gardens, an incredible lagoon pool with Jacuzzi and waterfall, two sun terraces, three covered loggias and a spectacular view of the Arenal Volcano rising from the lush rainforest.

Useful travel tips
Be careful with your expectations food wise... it is all very authentic and there is nothing fancy. The beds were very hard.
Taxi to La Fortuna de San Carlos around 12 $ .
Room Tip: Two story rooms have the best view .Ask for a room with the front door facing the volcano.
